The Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, has called for robust insurance compliance, strong financial structures, and a transparent regulatory framework to safeguard aircraft, aviation infrastructure, and the confidence of passengers, investors, and industry partners.

He made the call at the Aviation Insurance Compliance & Financing Technical Awareness Summit, themed “Securing the Skies: Navigating Aviation Insurance and Aircraft Finance Safeguards,” hosted by the Directorate of Air Transport Regulations (DATR) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on 24th November, 2025, in Lagos.

Represented by the Director of Air Transport Regulations, Mrs. Olayinka Babaoye-Iriobe, the DGCA emphasized that aviation, while vital to modern economies, remains a high-risk sector requiring sound risk management, sustainable financing, and strong insurance architecture.

The summit brought together critical stakeholders to define practical strategies for transitioning insurance frameworks, clarify global best practices, and harmonize safety oversight with financial obligations.

In his address, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), represented by Mrs. Gold Bridget of FAAN, noted that recent directives by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) reinforced compliance around the insurance and reinsurance of leased and financed aircraft operating in Nigeria.
