West Africa’s largest airline, Air Peace, has entered into a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, a move expected to significantly enhance international connectivity for Nigerian travellers while reinforcing the carrier’s growing footprint in the global aviation market.
The new agreement will provide Air Peace passengers with seamless access to Etihad Airways’ extensive global network through its Abu Dhabi hub, opening up convenient travel options to destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, North America and other regions. The partnership is also expected to simplify international travel by offering smoother connections, shorter transit times and improved passenger convenience.
For Air Peace, the collaboration represents another important milestone in its strategy of expanding beyond the African continent through partnerships with leading global airlines. Rather than operating long-haul services to every destination, the airline is leveraging interline and codeshare arrangements to extend its network, improve customer experience and strengthen its competitiveness in the international aviation industry.
The Etihad partnership comes amid Air Peace’s sustained expansion of international alliances. Earlier this year, the airline strengthened its interline agreement with Emirates, enabling passengers to book journeys across both airlines on a single ticket while enjoying through-checked baggage to their final destinations. The arrangement has simplified travel for Nigerian passengers heading to Europe, Asia, Australia and other global destinations through Dubai.
Air Peace also maintains a long-standing interline partnership with Hahn Air, allowing travel agents in more than 190 countries to issue Air Peace tickets through major Global Distribution Systems (GDS). This has significantly increased the Nigerian carrier’s visibility in the international travel market and made its services more accessible to travel agencies and corporate clients worldwide.
Industry observers believe the latest agreement with Etihad Airways will further position Air Peace as a key player in regional aviation and support Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a major air transport hub in West Africa. By connecting its extensive domestic and regional African network with Etihad’s worldwide route system, the airline is expected to facilitate business travel, tourism, trade and investment between Nigeria and major global markets.
The partnership is also expected to provide greater flexibility for passengers, wider destination choices and enhanced travel convenience, while contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
